Emissions values presented for the selected year have been re-calculated by EPA to display a consistent time-series using Global Warming Potential (GWP) values updated for 2013. Click here to learn more.
The Southern California Gas Company - Aliso Canyon facility's actual 2015 emissions were higher than those reported to the GHGRP. The GHGRP provides well-vetted average emission factors to calculate emissions. The facility followed these GHGRP calculation methods for 2015 reporting. Actual emissions differ from those reported due to an exceptional leak event. See California Air Resource Board's Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Leak webpage for more information.

GHG data for some source categories are not directly comparable between 2010 and subsequent years. 12 new source categories began reporting for 2011.
GHG data for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Systems source category is not directly comparable between 2011-2015 and 2016 onwards. Facilities in the Onshore Oil & Gas Gathering & Boosting and Onshore Gas Transmission Pipelines industry segments began reporting in 2016.

Facilities report emissions from many process types defined by the GHGRP. Reporting requirements for each process type are contained in different subparts of the regulation.
Fuel Combustion emissions are defined as those reported under Subpart AA, Subpart D, and Subpart C except Subpart C emissions from use of sorbent which are given their own category. Emissions from Use of Carbonate are defined as those reported under Subpart U.
All other reported direct emissions are categorized as Process Emissions.

Emissions values presented by fuel type are not directly reported to EPA by facilities in all cases. Some values have been estimated by EPA based on publicly available reported data.
Facility Emissions Range (MT CO2e)
As of August 18, 2014, these facilities have either not responded to a concern EPA raised regarding their data quality or have not submitted a 2014 report.
The GHGRP generally requires facilities that emit above 25,000 metric tons CO2e of GHGs to report their emissions. Therefore this data set does not reflect total U.S. emissions or total emissions from individual states. Roughly 50% of total U.S. emissions are reported by large emitting facilities subject to the GHGRP. Additional GHGs are reported by suppliers of fossil fuels and industrial gases.

You are About to View Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Data from Large Facilities |
Important Information about this Data Set This data set does not reflect total U.S. GHG emissions. The data was reported to EPA by facilities as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
You are About to View Greenhouse Gas Quantities from Suppliers |
Important Information about this Data Set Suppliers are facilities or entities that supply certains products (e.g., fossil fuels or industrial gases) into the economy that, when combusted, released, or oxidized, result in GHG emissions. The emissions do not take place at the suppliers' reporting location. The data was reported to EPA by suppliers as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
Important Information about this Data Set Owners or operators engaged in Onshore Oil and Natural Gas Production report aggregated GHG emissions in each basin where they operate and emissions exceed the reporting threshold. The data was reported to EPA as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
Important Information about this Data Set Natural gas distribution companies that exceed the reporting threshold report aggregated emissions in the state they operation in. These emissions are from fugitive leaks. GHG data associated with natural gas supplied by local distribution companies to end users is available in the suppliers portion of this tool. The data was reported to EPA by distribution companies as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
Important Information about this Data Set Facilities injection CO2 underground that exceed the reporting threshold report the total quantity of CO2 received for injection. The quantity of CO2 received for injection by each reporter is confidential except for facilities with an EPA-approved R&D project excemption for greenhouse gas reporting of geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide. The data was reported to EPA by suppliers as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
Important Information about this Data Set Owners and operators of electric power system facilities that exceed the reporting threshold report aggregated GHG emissions across the power system. The data was reported to EPA by facilities as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
Important Information about this Data Set The facilities displayed in this view are a subset of all direct emitters that report, those reporting emissions from a traditional facility or "point source". Other emitters not shown report emissions over broader spatial areas. The data was reported to EPA by facilities as of 08/16/2024. EPA continues to quality assure data and plans to release updated data periodically. Learn more about what is included in this data set and view related EPA GHG data sources. |
